THE FIELD & THE ROOF
Why doesn’t Rogers Centre have a natural grass field?
To maintain the ability to transform quickly and efficiently to accommodate
a number of events, Rogers Centre makes use of a synthetic playing surface
for baseball, football, soccer and other sporting events. The surface,
made to look, feel and play like natural grass is called FieldTurf. It
is made by a Canadian company based in Montreal.
How long does it take to put the field in place or take it away?
Typically, it takes up to 30 hours to convert the stadium from a baseball
diamond into a football field. It takes 20 hours to remove the diamond
to go to the concrete floor. It takes 16 hours to remove the football
field to go to concrete.
Can I rent the field for a baseball game?
Fans can get the chance to play at Rogers Centre for up to four hours.
Field rental includes access to dressing rooms, dugouts, security and
First Aid officers, bases, balls and bats. You’ll have to supply
your own gloves. For information, pricing and availability, please contact
Event Sales at 416-341-2222 or eventsales@rogerscentre.com.
How long does it take to open or close the roof?
The roof takes just over 20 minutes to open or close.
How do you decide whether to open or close the roof for an event?
The decision to host an event, baseball game or football game with an
open or closed roof, is based upon detailed weather information gathered
by our Roof Technicians.
