HIS HOLINESS THE 14th DALAI LAMA TO VISIT ROGERS CENTRE OCTOBER 22

Toronto, ON (July 6, 2010) – The Tibetan Canadian Cultural Centre (TCCC) with Canadian Tibetan Association of Ontario (CTAO) once again is privileged to officially host the visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to Toronto from October 22 to 25, 2010 (www.dalailamatoronto2010.org/). The honorary Canadian citizen will speak on "Human Approaches to World Peace", at Rogers Centre on October 22. He will share his personal outlook on how to convey peace in today’s modern world attaining to strike a balance between material development and spiritual development and revive our humanitarian values. Proceeds from these events will go towards TCCC’s charitable work preserving Tibet’s unique culture.

On October 23, 2010, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will attend the "Opening Ceremony of the Tibetan Canadian Cultural Centre" which is currently undergoing renovations (www.tcccgc.org/en). Enhancements to the space will be made possible by funding provided by the Government of Canada, local Tibetan community fundraising and with contributions from friends of the TCCC. This event is by invitation only. The TCCC is a not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to preserving Tibetan culture and traditions in Canada while promoting cross-cultural understanding and friendships. Teachings are sponsored by CTAO will be held on October 24, 2010 include "Long Life Empowerment and Long Life Ceremony" which is co-sponsored by Tsengdok Monastery, Vancouver, followed by "Eight Verses of Training the Mind", at the TCCC. An empowerment creates the necessary conditions for the development in us of the same qualities as the Buddha. This initiation is open to all, and can also be received by non-Buddhists as a blessing. "Eight Verses of Training the Mind", is a practice that involves refining and purifying one's motivations and attitudes - hence "Mind Training", with a long-term goal of developing altruistic emotions and behaviour towards all people. The "Long Life Ceremony" consists of a religious offering destined to request a spiritual master to live for a long time, so that he may work for the welfare of all beings as long as possible. This ceremony is realized by the Tibetan community of Ontario and is a great occasion to pray for the long life of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
