December 2007 Rogers Centre Newsletter

December 5, 2007

Rogers Centre News, a monthly publication, is brought to you with the latest news and information on events at Rogers Centre.

HOLIDAY MAGIC ALL UNDER ONE ROOF
The beauty of fresh fallen white snow on tree branches; the warm smell of apple cider with cinnamon; the joy of young children building snow men and creating snow angels are all really wonderful holiday memories that we enjoy sharing. The reality, unfortunately, is that colder than normal temperatures, with gusty winds and slushy roads are what we are facing this month. Thankfully, it does not mean that holiday magic is not around us or available to us on those less than idyllic nights.

Rogers Centre plays host to two of the most spectacular holiday shows this month as André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra and Disney’s High School Musical: The Ice Tour help fill you with holiday cheer.

ROMANCE AND OPULANCE ABOUND IN FULL STADIUM SHOW

Romance takes centre stage with show

André Rieu is a free spirited violinist and conductor who is set to turn the classical music industry on its ear with the unveiling of his first ever full stadium show in Toronto on December 14 and 15, 2007 at Rogers Centre.

As you read this, there are hundreds of individuals working 24 hours a day building a life size replica of the Imperial Schönbrunn Palace within Rogers Centre. This beautiful Viennese landmark will help set the romantic mood during his shows. Paired with 120 shinning chandeliers, 36 horses and carriages, two skating rinks and two working fountains, spectators will feel as if they have left Toronto and been transported straight to Europe.

Helping keep the show filled with wonderfully Canadian touches, Rieu recently announced that up and coming Canadian Junior Pairs figure skaters would participate with him in the show. With the standard rules of classical music decorum not applicable with this show, talented dancers, solo singers and a 50 member orchestra will ensure that every fan in attendance is dancing in the aisle, clapping along to the melody and even filling in the chorus line.

The Guinness Book of World Records has their eyes on André’s full-stadium show as the extravaganza may set three new world records. This show, with the full opulence of a romantic Viennese night, could potentially set new records for the biggest set ever built; the largest logistical operation ever undertaken; and the largest number of performers for one show.

Be part of history and join the largest crowd to ever watch an indoor classical music concert. Tickets, ranging in price from $84.50 to $124.50, are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, including Rogers Centre – Gate 7, charge by phone at 416-872-1111 or online at Ticketmaster.

Groups of 20 or more are encouraged to contact the Group Sales Office via e-mail or call 416-341-2255.

Ball State completed the regular season with a mark of 7 – 5 after winning their final two Conference games. This is the team’s best season since 1996 and marks their first appearance in a Bowl game in 11 years. Head Coach Brady Hoke, who played for the Cardinals from 1977 – 80, has steadily been improving the team both on the offensive and defensive ends since taking over the helm in 2002.
