2009 Prentice Cup Crowns New Champ

Birchmount and Pickering face each
other in 2009 Prentice Cup
Pickering celebrates two runs
scored in third inning

On Wednesday, June 10, the 20th annual high school baseball championships were contested at Rogers Centre between the Birchmount Park Panthers of Toronto and the Pickering Trojans of Ajax. Neither team had ever played in the championship game in their respective school’s history making today’s contest extra special for the winner.

Encouraged by their rowdy student cheering section, Pickering got on the board first scoring two runs in the bottom of the third inning on a triple to deep centre field. Birchmount would respond with four runs in the top of the fourth inning with a combination of hits and walks and hit batters.

Despite a valiant effort by Pickering, Birchmount held on to prevail 4-2 to capture their first ever OFSAA High School Baseball Championship.
