HISTORIC SPORT BRINGS COMPETITORS AND SPECTATORS TOGETHER

Kabaddi mixes sport and social for one special day

An exercise in athleticism and also a cultural event that draws the community together, KABADDI is an experience for participants and spectators alike. The chance to witness this unique sport arrives this August when the CANADA KABADDI CUP 2009 takes to the field at Rogers Centre. Teams from around the world compete for the championship title on SUNDAY, AUGUST 16 at 10:00 a.m.

KABADDI, a sport that originated in India 4,000 years ago, has grown in popularity throughout the world and has taken on great cultural meaning. Using elements of teamwork, strength and strategy, KABADDI was embraced by everyone from farmers to nobility. A game of KABADDI gave participants a chance to celebrate and challenge and would bring a community together as they watched and cheered for their favourite team.

Even today, fans will sometimes bring money which they give to the KABADDI announcer so he can present it to a good player.

Growing over the centuries, the appeal of KABADDI extended to organizations like the British Army, local police forces and even clubs in schools. Within each of these communities, a KABADDI match provided the opportunity to promote teamwork and unity, while keeping the history of this rich, cultural sport alive. While the sport continues to gain momentum, emphasis is not just placed on the athletes but also on those who embrace the social aspect through their support of the teams.

And with the variety of competitors at Rogers Centre this August, there is plenty of opportunity to come out and show support! Teams from CANADA, AUSTRALIA, BRITAIN, ITALY, U.S.A. and INDIA bring their KABADDI skills to the forefront for a chance to win the championship. Skillfully maneuvering through the elements of tag along with the grapples and scrums of wrestling and rugby, all without protective gear for the players, the teams must be in top form in order to keep the momentum of this demanding sport.

Take the day to get acquainted with this historic sporting and social event by heading to Rogers Centre for one special day this August.

Tickets, priced at $45.00 for general admission and $25.00 each for a family four-pack, are currently available via all Ticketmaster Outlets, including Rogers Centre – Gate 7, charge by phone at 416-870-8000 or online.

SMASH ALBUM AND WORLD TOUR MAKES A STOP AT ROGERS CENTRE

New album leaves fans excited for live show

The JONAS BROTHERS have become synonymous with summer 2009 and it is easy to see why. A brand-new album that debuted at number one in June, a world tour that sold over 800,000 tickets in its first weekend and even a line of branded energy drinks; these talented brothers have conquered all. Toronto is next on their list of worldwide triumphs as THE JONAS BROTHERS WORLD TOUR 2009 brings the latest songs from the album and a spectacular stage show to Rogers Centre. The excitement reaches a fever pitch on SUNDAY, AUGUST 30 at 7:30 p.m.

While the brothers put the finishing touches on their fourth studio album LINES, VINES AND TRYING TIMES, fans waited eagerly for the latest offering from the JONAS sensations. Expanding their catchy pop-rock song repertoire to include influences from ELVIS COSTELLO, the ZUTONS, KINGS OF LEON and NEIL DIAMOND, this latest album became an immediate hit reaching number one in the U.S. on the BILLBOARD TOP 200. Songs like “Paranoid” and “Burning Up” were eagerly embraced by fans and LINES, VINES AND TRYING TIMES also went to number one in Canada, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Central America.

This latest album includes guest vocals by MILEY CYRUS and COMMON, a progression in the JONAS BROTHERS musical style and adding more instrumentation, including horns and strings, to their sounds. This musical growth has struck a chord with fans and it is easy to see why their latest album created such a stir on its first day of release.

Already strongly in sync with their fans, the JONAS BROTHERS wasted no time in bringing the new album to life launching their first world tour just days after the release of LINES, VINES AND TRYING TIMES. Creating a stage show that was both intimate and impressive was challenging but from the stellar reviews of initial shows THE JONAS BROTHERS WORLD TOUR 2009 became an instant hit. Using an in-the-round stage brings the audience closer to the band and closer to all the bells and whistles, which include a large circular water screen, 350 lighting units and pyrotechnics.

Known for giving back to their fans, a JONAS BROTHERS concert is no exception. Finding die-hard fans sitting near the back of the show and bringing them up to the front to sit in the best seats in the house is a JONAS BROTHERS staple on their tours. JONAS BROTHERS’ excitement is sure to be a full blast with an opportunity like that waiting in the corner.

The evening starts with HONOR SOCIETY and AMERICAN IDOL winner JORDIN SPARKS warming up the audience so head down early to get the full sizzle of this sensational show.

Rogers Centre knows and appreciates that many parents will be dropping fans off at the stadium and waiting around until the concert ends. For those dedicated parents, Rogers Centre has set up a designated PARENT WAITING AREA located in WINDOWS, on the north side of the venue with an entrance near Gate 2. Doors for the PARENT WAITING AREA open at 6:00 p.m. and will operate on a first-come, first-serve basis until filled to capacity.

Ticket information is available at all Ticketmaster outlets, including Rogers Centre – Gate 7, charge by phone at 416-870-8000 or online.

TICKETS ON SALE FOR THE ONLY CANADIAN STOP IN THIS DYNAMIC SEASON

Supercross flies into town this March 2010

After a successful win at Rogers Centre this previous March, JAMES STEWART used the momentum and rode on to win the 2009 AMA SX CHAMPIONSHIP. This two-time champion fought an intense battle against bitter rival CHAD REED in a season that proved to have chills, spills and electric thrills. All that and more is back in 2010 with the recent announcement that Rogers Centre will host the only Canadian 2010 MONSTER ENERGY® AMA SUPERCROSS race on SATURDAY, MARCH 13, 2010. Racing begins with QUALIFYING SESSIONS at 12:30 p.m. and the CHAMPIONSHIP RACES start at 7:00 p.m.

The good old-fashioned rivalry between STEWART and REED will reach a whole new level in 2010. Racing tailpipe to tailpipe throughout most of the 2009 season, both competitors were close in the points standing and each race win was a major victory towards being crowned champion. STEWART’s slight points lead gave him the advantage by the time the final race took place in Las Vegas and after a strong 2009 season, REED will not have taken the loss lightly. Looking to 2010, REED is sure to come on even stronger than last season in an attempt to win the championship for the third time in his career.

Tickets have just gone on sale and with tensions already flaring between STEWART and REED this will be the event to attend. 2010 brings these foes to the forefront once again so do not delay in getting your tickets before they sell out!

Tickets for the event, ranging in price from $20.00 to $45.00 are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, including Rogers Centre – Gate 7, charge by phone at 416-870-8000 or online. Groups of 20 or more are encouraged to contact the Group Sales Office via e-mail.
