On Friday, October 9, Rogers Centre will be transformed into a spiritual sanctuary, illuminated by various lights, as many in the Indian community attend MAHAUTSAV a Diwali Festival of Lights celebration.
The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil and the uplifting of spiritual darkness as participants light diyas, a cotton-like string wick which is inserted in small clay pots filled with coconut oil. A re-enactment of Rama’s victory over Ravana concluding with the traditional burning of the Effigy brings everyone together on this special night.
Traditionally lasting five days, the celebrations at Rogers Centre will run continuously from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9 until 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10.
This year’s festival runs for 30 hours, the longest of its kind in North America, and will provide non-stop entertainment with live entertainment, DJ’s, yoga, vendors, children’s rides and the premier of a Bollywood film.
