There are many ways you can implement positive environmental practices to your everyday life at home. Here are a few examples:
- Replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent lights which last longer than traditional bulbs and use up to 75% less energy
- In addition to recycling paper and plastic products, consider composting many of the organic materials left over from cooking meals. This helps cut down on garbage as well as being a great natural fertilizer
- Turn off all equipment (computer, iron, lights) when not in use
- Install low-flow shower heads to reduce your water consumption by up to 35%
- Do your laundry in cold water to save up to 90% of the energy used in washing your clothes. If possible, consider drying your clothes outside with sunlight
- Use a reusable bottle or travel mug for water, coffee and tea
- Buy products with less packaging
