Construction & Renovations

Before construction or renovation projects begin energy conservation and recycling opportunities are explored to ensure that Rogers Centre and the Toronto Blue Jays continue to reduce our energy consumption as well as reducing our impact on the environment. As well, we ensure that as much construction and renovation waste is diverted from the waste stream and into recycling streams where possible. Some examples of initiatives that have been completed in 2011 are outlined below.

  • TBJ Clubhouse/Visitors Clubhouse
  • The digital thermostats in the clubhouses were tied into the Building Automation System. The clubhouses can now be scheduled to only have the air conditioned when they are being occupied
  • Encelium lighting controls were installed in both clubhouses so that the lights can be controlled either through occupancy sensors or time scheduling
  • Exterior Benches & Garbage Cans
  • New exterior benches and garbage cans were purchased this year
  • The aluminum casting components contain 95% recycled material
  • The steel components are electrocoated using lead free paint and chrome-free sealers in a closed system
  • The metal components are powder coated which allows unused or over-sprayed powder to be recovered
  • Ipe wood is procured from reputable suppliers that utilize sustainable forestry practices
  • Liners for the garbage cans contain 100% pre consumer recycled content

  • 200L Concourse Floor
  • The 200L concourse carpet needed to be replaced. All flooring options were reviewed and it was decided to polish the concrete instead of using a floor covering or coating
  • Polishing the concrete reduced our impact on the environment as we eliminated the need for a chemical based floor covering material or coating
